A government agency
Skokloster Castle is a state museum. Up until December 31 2017 Skokloster Castle, together with the Royal Armoury, the Hallwyl Museum and the Conservation and Photography Department constitute a government agency; the Royal Armoury and Skokloster Castle with the Hallwyl Museum Foundation (LSH). From January 1 2018 The Royal Armoury is part of the government agency National Historical Museums (SHM).
The National Historical Museums’ mission is to promote knowledge of and interest in Sweden’s history combined with preserving and developing the cultural heritage that the agency administers. Our operations are to be a matter of interest for everyone in society.
The agency includes the Royal Armoury, Skokloster Castle, the Hallwyl Museum, the Swedish History Museum and the Royal Coin Cabinet plus the museum operations at Tumba Papermill Museum. The agency is also responsible for the contract archaeology service known as The Archaeologists.
The government agency is accountable to the Ministry of Culture. The museums base their work on a national cultural policy resolution enacted by the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament).
