Skokloster Castle is one of the best-preserved Baroque palaces in the world and a unique destination for the travel industry looking to offer historical and memorable experiences near Stockholm and Arland Airport. Here, visitors are greeted by magnificent interiors, fascinating collections, and the artwork.

Skokloster Castle was once the home of renowned field marshal Carl Gustav Wrangel of the 30-years war fame. Its most sought-after possession is the painting Vertumnus by the 16th century Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Skokloster Castle is open all year round to pre-booked tours, and our knowledgeable guides, fluent in several languages, will give you and your visitors an unforgettable experience as they travel together in time back to the 17th century.

Arlanda airport is 45 minutes away. You can also reach us by boat. The distance by car from Stockholm is slightly more than an hour and slightly less from Uppsala.

Recommended visit duration

We recommend 1 to 1.5 hours for a visit the Skokloster Castles exhibitons.

Open year-round for guided tours by appointment

Our knowledgeable guides speak multiple languages and will provide you and your guests with an unforgettable experience as you journey back in time to the 17th century. The tour lasts about an hour.

Private Guided Tours

Prices daytime on weekdays

A pre-booked private tour of the castle costs 2 500 SEK for a group of up to 15 participants, with the option to add a maximum of 5 extras at 130 SEK each, making that a total of 20 at 3 150 SEK. These prices are applicable daytime on weekdays.

Prices weekends and evenings

On weekends, bank holidays, and evenings after 17:00 local time the fee will be 3 500 SEK, all extras the same as mentioned above. It is of course possible to have several guided tours at the same time if you have a large group of visitors. All the above prices include entrance fees.

    Good to know before you visit the Skokloster Castle.

    Travel by public transport or car

    Skokloster Castle is a museum with a shop and café located on the shores of Lake Mälaren on the Sko Peninsula in the municipality of Håbo. The simplest way to get here is by local public transport or car.

    Getting here by car

    Driving from Stockholm to Skokloster Castle: 

    • Take the E18 towards Oslo/Enköping
    • At Bro turn onto road 269/263 and follow the signs to Skokloster

    This route is 66 kilometres and takes about an hour from Stockholm Central Station. 

    By car from Uppsala to Skokloster Castle:

    • Take road 255 towards Sigtuna
    • Turn onto road 263 and follow the signs to Skokloster

    This route is 49 kilometres and takes about 50 minutes from Uppsala Central Station.

    By car from Västerås and Enköping to Skokloster Castle:

    • Take the E18 towards Stockholm
    • Turn off at Bålsta and follow the signs to Skokloster

    The route from Västerås central station to Skokloster Castle is 75 kilometres and takes about an hour.
    The route from Enköping station to Skokloster Castle is 41 kilometres and takes about 40 minutes.

    Train and bus

    Stockholm to Skokloster Castle:

    • Commuter trains run from Stockholm Central Station to Bålsta.
    • From Bålsta, take bus 311 to Skokloster.
    • The journey takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.

    Uppsala to Skokloster Castle:

    • From Uppsala Central Station, take bus 895 towards Bålsta as far as Yttergran Church.
    • Change at Yttergran Church onto bus 311 to Skokloster.
    • The journey takes about 1 hour 40 minutes.

    Västerås to Skokloster: 

    • From Västerås Central Station, take the SJ train to Bålsta.
    • From Bålsta, take bus 311 to Skokloster.
    • The journey takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.

    Accessibility

    For visitors with mobility impairments:

    • Skokloster Castle has four floors and no elevator.
    • Folding chairs are available to borrow.
    • An accessible restroom is available on the entrance level, but there is no automatic door opener.
    • Personal assistants enter free of charge.

    For visitors with visual or hearing impairments:

    • Guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome.

    For visitors with strollers:

    • Strollers are not allowed inside. Please park your stroller near the entrance.

    Audio guide

    At Skokloster Castle, you can also take a self-guided tour using an audio guide. It opens on your smartphone and takes you through the state apartments and the main exhibition on the ground floor. As a bonus, there’s a family-friendly track for younger visitors. Just scan the QR code, plug in your headphones, and dive into history.

    Good to know about lighting and temperature

    • The upper floors have no lighting.
    • Lighting and central heating are only available on the ground floor.
    • During the winter months, it gets both dark and cold.
    • Remember to dress according to the season. In winter, it can be very cold inside the castle, and in summer, it can get quite warm.

    Bringing bags into the Castle

    It is not permitted to bring large bags or backpacks into the castle. You can store them in the free lockers located outside the visitor restrooms. Umbrellas are not allowed inside the exhibitions.

    Eat and drink

    It is not permitted to consume food or drinks inside the castle. At Skokloster Castle Café, you’ll find both indoor seating and outdoor seating during the summer. The café serves freshly baked pastries, sandwiches, and homemade lunches. It is open during the same hours as the castle, with food service available between 11.00 and 15.30.
